Our approach to a project will be to meet with all those concerned in this project for a first orientation visit and facility familiarization. sls partnership, inc. can provide the following services associated with any new project or construction project development:

Planning and Project/Construction Phasing full understanding of user programmatic needs, spatial, equipment, and furniture needs – for both current and future.
The Design Process full participation in viewing current facility/user integration, which includes how all structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical requirements are used.
The Construction Phase contract review, site inspections, construction/project management submittal evaluation, progress meetings, and processing of all contractor forms.

Sustainable Design Integration

Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment, and the health and comfort of building occupants, thereby improving building performance. The basic objectives of sustainability are to reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste, and create healthy, productive environments. Sustainable design principles include the ability to: optimize site potential; minimize non-renewable energy consumption; use environmentally preferable products; protect and conserve water; enhance indoor environmental quality; and optimize operational and maintenance practices.

Utilizing a sustainable design philosophy encourages decisions at each phase of the design process that will reduce negative impacts on the environment and the health of the occupants, without compromising the bottom line. It is an integrated, holistic approach that encourages compromise and tradeoffs. Such an integrated approach positively impacts all phases of a building’s life cycle, including design, construction, operation, and decommissioning

shipping container Architecture

What is Shipping Container Architecture?

Shipping container architecture is a form of architecture that takes advantage of a resource that is very abundant in the United States. Every year the United States imports more goods than it exports by a very wide margin. As a result, there is a major surplus of empty steel shipping containers scattered around all of the major shipping ports in the United States. These empty steel shipping containers sit in storage yards because it actually costs more to ship the container back to its country of origin than it costs for a new one to be made. This has created a problem but sls partnership, inc. has decided to be a part of the solution. Shipping container architecture is, as its name implies, creating architecture using shipping containers. By taking advantage of this material and recycling it into a useful form, two things are achieved:

  1. A sustainable building is created because of the use of recycled materials.

  2. An affordable building is created because recycled material is relatively inexpensive.

Shipping container architecture is not a new concept, and there are many examples of this form of architecture that range from low-income housing to retail stores, portable dwellings, to multi-million dollar houses. All of these forms are valid. sls partnership, inc. has had the opportunity to develop and create buildings that utilize shipping container architecture. It has been a fulfilling opportunity and a chance to have a positive impact on the environment and economy. Our work utilizing shipping container architecture has ranged from sports and recreation facilities, to master planning and into higher education. We believe that this method of construction can and should be used for a variety of applications.
